I can sit in both camps, because I have. I find the older I get, the less I want or need to carry. Simplicity and saavy go together. Never go hiking without a knife, string, and a book of matches. An old Army saying is, "Trust God, but keep the powder dry." So we must have a level of preparedness, but don't carry the kitchen sink. I've had a few friends that will even admit they are "always prepared" but they are always tired of trying to keep up with everything. I quit carrying an airpump because it was always in my way and never could think of a time I needed it on the road. If I need that much air, chances are I need something else too. I do carry a compliment of tools, and even the rear axle nut wrench. Why? They really don't take up much space, I do use them in the driveway, so I don't have dig to in the shed; I can help out others, and that happens many times. The rear axle nut wrench is one that others most likely won't have if I break a belt on the road. Oh, I do have a first aide kit, not for myself, but if I was ever to come upon an accident, I do believe first response is often the life-saver. That is one thing I hope I'll never have to use.

I think these guys have done a great job of summarizing what to expect out of the Vision 8-ball that you're looking at. They've all pretty much hit the nail on the head. Even though the Vision may be a 'heavy bike' by some standards, I believe a trunked XC is heavier than an 8-ball (but correct me if I'm wrong on that one). My wife isn't afraid to ride my Vision (even though she has two Victorys of her own... spoiled brat, lol!), and the tip-over protection certainly adds to her confidence. And she's only 5'5" and 135 lbs.

You should see the looks she gets from those big, gruff, sleeveless Harley dudes at bike night, when she hops on the Vision and takes off like it's second nature.

She likes riding it because she feels a little safer in traffic than her bikes. She likes the feeling of not being so exposed to the cagers versus a bike with little or no bodywork (plastic, fairing, whatever you want to call it).
I have been to Daytona bike week a few times and Sturgiss both very fun Motorcycle rallys.

Last July Donna and I attended Roar on the Shore for the first time.

We had a blast unlike the above mentioned bike events ROS picks a charity and donates a lion share of the money taken in to it.

Last year the charity was the Flight 93 memorial.

The people of Erie embrace this event and the bikers who make the pilgrimage.

The area is great Lake Erie is a great reasource fishing and water sports abound.

The reasturants are well priced as well as the lodging.

For those who smoke Cigerettes are inexpensive and bars allow smoking.

Inspite of our current woes I have convinced Donna that we should at least do this event.

Hope to see some Vision and Victory Riders

This year we have had very little snow and some incredibly warm days.

I should be happy but based on last year I put my Vision in to storage and had back surgery.
The surgery went well and I really would have loved a ride today.
My DR probably would not agree.
I know it is for the best for both my back and my Vision but I really miss her

I just spent a whopping $98 bucks for a Garmin 765T refurb job from Wallyworld. Mounted it with a Ram handlebar mount and listen to my instructions via the FM tuner. Used it today and worked fantastic. Heard her loud and clear. I only switch to the unused station when I know I'm nearing some instruction. I also have the MP3 glovebox cable option if I want to. You can load all the MP3 tunes you want in it....bluetooth too. I know the Zumo is the shizzle and I had one for a brief couple of days on another bike but returned it when I couldn't see the screen in daylight. Same screen issues with this 765T but the voice instructions through the stereo speakers made it awesome and saving 5 or 6 hundred bucks didn't suck either. Waterproof?, no and neither am I. Like many others, I have a ziploc if I need it.
